Easy Nourishing Meals for New Moms

Having a new baby is such a joyous, blessed time for everyone involved! It is also a time of adjustment, bonding and healing. New moms should not have to be concerned with preparing nourishing meals after the baby comes. These first few days of bonding are precious and go by so quickly!

Many moms have meal trains set up for them through groups or churches they are involved in but some don't have this option. There are simple meals that can be prepared ahead of time and frozen so that they can easily be popped into the oven or crock pot. Here are a few of my favorites. Breakfast is really important as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. If mama has been up all night with baby, that morning meal needs to be nourishing to replenish her.

"Soaked" granola can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container. Peach or blueberry overnight French toast can easily be thrown together in the evening and cooked in the morning for a nice hot breakfast.

A breakfast meal that is easy to make is overnight crock pot oatmeal. Not a freezer meal either but one that can be put into a small crock pot the night before and is ready in the morning. This is great especially if there are other children at home for a hot, nutritious breakfast. There are many delicious flavors to choose from:

Muffins and sweet breads can be made ahead and frozen. They make a good snack, addition to breakfast, or pick-me-up.

Slow Cooker Meals

My favorite meal to have on-hand when I first have a baby or to bring to a new mom is Roasted Chicken with Vegetables. It's simple to cut all the veggies ahead of time and put the in the freezer until ready to cook. This dish can either be cooked in the oven or the crock pot.

Slow Cooker Sausage, Onions & Peppers is a great meal for weekends!

Soups and chili are wonderful to either cook in the slow cooker or cook and freeze. I make my soups with a bone broth base. Here is a recipe for chicken bone broth and my favorite way to enjoy it. It's wonderfully nourishing and healing.

Serve any of these soups or chili with Soaked Whole Wheat Biscuits and a nice harvest or summer salad and you've got a complete meal!
